Uniform labels for new vehicles and service stations are obligatory as from October 12 2018. This to ensure that customers find the right fuel for their vehicle.

New and uniform fuel labels
The new labels are introduced in all 28 member states of the EU, the EEA-countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and also in Macedonia, Servia, Switzerland and Turkey. They only apply to new vehicles that are brought on the market or registered as from October 12 2018.
The new labels cover gas, diesel, hydrogen (H2), natural gas under pressure (CNG), liquid gas (LNG) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Currently, they are working on the development of similar labels of electric vehicles and charging points. These will be introduced in a later stage.
What do the labels look like?
The label for different sorts of gas is round. The number after the E indicates the maximum percentage bio-components that are processed in the gas. The label for different sorts of diesel is square and the number after the B stands for the maximum percentage specific biodiesel-components that are processed in the diesel. XTL means that the fuel is synthetic and not manufactured of rough petroleum. Diamond-shaped labels indicate the gassy fuels.
